The owners of “Possum Trot” have just reduced the price $51,000.  Don’t miss an opportunity like this!

This historical Kentucky Recreational Property has been reduced to $414,000 for the buyer who wants all 306 acres.  This property has a large home, a detached garage, a huge shop with all the woodworking tools ever needed, a barn, a library, and facilities to sleep and feed more than 30 people.

The property has been upgraded with a newer well that pumps 50 gallons of water a minute and now has high speed internet wiring.

This rustic retreat center has been in the family since the end of the Civil War.  Once owned by Kentucky writer Jess Wilson, he held writers’ retreats and authors from various places in the Midwest and South have visited Possum Trot over the past 50 years.

Richard Chase graced Possum Trot on occasion.  Chase, a native of Huntsville, Alabama, collected, retold or performed, and edited folk tales, songs and dramas throughout much of Appalachia.  His best known book may be The Complete Tales of Uncle Remus but the one that I enjoyed sharing the most with my students (from the days when I was a teacher-librarian) was Grandfather Tales: American-English Folk Tales.

Tennessee Williams also spent time writing and teaching at Possum Trot.  Sitting on one of the porches or resting under one of the giant poplars or strolling through the forest, one cannot help sensing the presence of the people who loved this quiet place this past century.

Richard Chase and Tennesssee Williams set on the porch of this 2,000 square foot home and shared stories with other writers and visitors.

It is rare to find a property like this in Kentucky that has the mineral rights intact.  There is a large spring fed pond on the property and numerous other springs in the hills.  The well, the natural springs, the mineral rights, trees and other natural resources make this a Kentucky treasure like none other.

Enjoy riding your horses or walking or four wheeling the 8 miles of trails that are located on this special outdoor paradise.  Flocks of wild turkeys and numerous deer will reward your trail adventures.
