Christmas in Wilmore 2012

Christmas in Wilmore 2012

We made the twenty minute drive to Wilmore on December first to celebrate with the beginning of the Christmas season with the wonderful people of Wilmore.  Each year on the first Saturday of December the city of Wilmore, Kentucky has its Christmas Festival.

A wonderful time of celebration in Wilmore.

Christmas in Wilmore is a time to connect with friends and celebrate with music, food and lights.

Central Kentucky has lots of small towns with good people.  The residents of Wilmore  are treated by all the local businesses to an evening of music, treats and lights.

Wilmore is the home to Asbury University and Asbury Seminary.  The grand stature of the University buildings in the background of Main Street creates a feeling of grandeur for this celebration of the birth of The Christ.

We took our grandaughter Caroline with us and visited most of the businesses.  We roasted marshmallows on the First Southern Bank parking lot, ate mini ham sandwiches at the local IGA and had mini pumpkin pies at Kentucky bank.

Many of the businesses had a small bluegrass band playing and the Methodist Church has an instrumental group and a few singers performing Christmas carols.

The local fire department joins with the Nicholasville Fire Department to suspend a large US flag over main street.

Main street is closed and men, women, children and their pets fill the street.

We live in Lexington but have clients and friends who live in Wilmore.  The highlight of “Christmas in Wilmore” is visiting with all the people we know as we mingle on Main Street.

We have friends who now live in Memphis but they made the journey to Central Kentucky  to experience the fellowship on Main Street.

We’ll always have a special place in our hearts for Christmas in Wilmore.  In 2003 our son took a girl there for their first date.  We love him, our daughter in law, and their two children.
